Colon hydrotherapy (colonic) is a gentle infusion of sterilized water into the lower bowel through the opening in the rectum. This is a gentle process, but most people are amazed at the amount of material that is released. Often, the gas that has accumulated from poor eating habits is also released, and the end result is a feeling of being lighter and more comfortable.
There are several types of colon hydrotherapy machines. The most common is the closed system and the open system. We use the closed system at Austin Colonic Center in Austin. The closed system has an operator in the room with you during the session so you can ask any questions or voice any concerns or discuss any problems during the session. The entire session is usually about 45 minutes in length with your total time at the office being one hour.
People often ask if they should have more than one session. I believe that depends on your state of health and goals. The best time to determine the number of sessions required is when you come into the office for your first appointment. We can discuss what you would like to achieve over the coming months. This is not magic. You will generally feel much better after your first appointment, but it often requires a commitment to your health with several sessions to achieve your goals.
You should have no side effects after the session and should be able to go about your normal routine without any problems. I often request that people eat lightly or be fasting before they arrive and ask that you do not consume an excessive amount of liquid before your session. The session itself puts water into the lower bowel and you will receive some hydration benefits. An electrolyte supplement is given after the treatment to restore any imbalances.
Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective way to reduce bloating and help with constipation. Texas law requires you to have a current prescription on file to receive a colonic. You can bring one from your physician or receive one in this office from my sponsoring physician. There is an extra fee for this service.
Colon Cleansing Therapy For Weight Loss
Inside the rectum lies the hemorrhoidal vein, which enters into the portal circulation. The portal vein receives liquids and transports them directly to the liver, thus working on the entire length of the colon. Austin Colonic Center offers a choice of three colonic implants:
- Wheatgrass, since the high magnesium content starts to purge the liver of toxins.
- Bio-Bifidus Complex, a dairy-free blend of probiotics that rebuilds a balance of good microorganisms in the gut.
- Coffee, a therapy from the Gerson clinic, encourages the liver to produce more bile and open the flow of the bile ducts.
Each implant is available for an additional charge of $25. Please indicate on your appointment request if you would like to receive an implant during your session.
I am often asked how many sessions do I need? This depends on your specific, immediate problem and what your future goals are. Book your free consultation so we can discuss any issues you have.
Schedule of Fees:
- 30-minute, first-time consultation at no charge
- First-time new client: $175.00 with an additional $25 fee for Rx (required)(you may furnish your own from either an MD or a DO stating that you are cleared to have a colonic.)
- Returning clients with Rx on file: $175.00
There is a discount if you purchase a colonic cleanse hydrotherapy package. State law requires each person receiving a colonic to provide a prescription from an M.D. or a D.O. This must be an original copy. If your doctor will not provide this for you, Austin Colonic Center has a doctor associated with our clinic who will provide the prescription for $35.00. This fee is paid the first time you receive your colonic and can be obtained at the time you come in for your appointment.

"Austin Colonic Center has an excellent colon cleanse program. Not only can you do the cleanse program but you can do individual colonics for maintenance. She is a I-Act certified hydrotherapist who works well for keeping your entire body healthy. I have been doing colonics for years and have found Karen Million the owner of Austin Colonic Center to be far superior to the others I have gone to. I would and have recommended her to my friends and family."
